What were the hair color trends of 2021, and which ones will we still see in 2022? Above all, blonde shades and highlights were hugely popular in 2021. But gorgeous rouge was also in high demand. One technique was always in the spotlight: balayage. 2021 was all about naturalness, and with highlights, babylights and balayage you can create a natural look. Pastel highlights are a welcome change from all the natural styles. With hair extensions and hair thickening from Rubin Extensions, you can try the colors from the runways yourself. So let's sum up last year's color trends together and make a prediction for the coming year.
1. Balayage
Last year, we all spent most of our time at home. Salons were closed more often than they were open, and with masks and all the rest, it simply wasn't very relaxing anyway. That's why many people opted for low-maintenance hairstyles, and balayage highlights are perfect for that. The great thing about them is that they bring change and a summery look. Yet you don't have to go to the salon every few weeks, because the roots are part of the look and it doesn't matter at all if they grow a little.

2. Alpine blonde
Not quite as natural a look, but still a huge hit: alpine blonde. This hair color borders on white and is only advisable if you naturally have very light hair. This blonde shade is very similar to ice blonde or Silver Blonde. Stars such as Billie Eilish, Selena Gomez and Megan Fox in particular went blonde in 2021, and we are sure this style will still be a hit in 2022.

3. Babylights
Babylights and balayage go hand in hand. Both lighten your hair, but babylights make your hair look lighter than balayage, because you get many very fine highlights. They make you feel as if you have just come back from the beach. Think of a natural, sun-kissed golden shimmer. The focus is on the ends and the roots.
4. Pastel
Pastel shades have been in fashion for a while now. Combined with balayage, they are a great way to work soft pastel tones into your hair without having to color all of it. With pastel highlights you get very close to this look. They liven up your styling and give you a fresh, modern and youthful look. With our pastel tape-in extensions, you can even add highlights without coloring your own hair. Find our entire range of tape-in extensions here.

5. Rouge
This color was inspired by the Netflix series "The Queen's Gambit". The main character, Elizabeth "Beth" Harmon, wears a soft Ruby Red in the hit American drama. This enchanting shade of red is a little darker than the copper red we saw on the runways last year, but not quite as dark as auburn. This smart look is sure to turn heads and is a real eye-catcher at any party!

And those were the trend colors of 2021 and 2022. They don't belong to just one color group but ride a roller coaster across the color spectrum, just as 2021 was a roller coaster for many people. If you missed out on some of these colors, you can now catch up with the help of hair extensions!
